Chamil Abeykoon received the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2007, with the award of best performance in mechanical engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Queens University Belfast, U.K., in 2011, with several publications, in which one of his publications received the Young Author Best Paper Award from the IEEE in 2011. After completing the Ph.D. degree, he briefly worked as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and a Research Fellow with the University of Bradford, U.K.

Process monitoring, modeling, and control; and soft sensors and soft sensing; process instrumentation; renewable energy technologies; 3D printing, phase change materials; and heat transfer.

Dr. S.Joseph Antony is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Leeds, U.K. He started his research career as an experimentalist in the area of photonic stress analysis and strength measurement of continuum bodies. However, over the past decade, his research focus is on the nanomechanical and micromechanical modeling of particles and their roles in structural assemblies with particular emphasis on structure-property relations. His current research interests include Particulate Mechanics (MD, DEM, FEM Modelling): Nano, micro, and macroscopic properties of powders and grains, Force transmission patterns in particulate materials subjected to mechanical, electrical, and combined loading conditions, Strength of nanoparticulate composites, Developing composites for constructions from municipal wastes, Self-assembly and disassembly behavior of mineral particulates, Sensing stresses in soft matter including the human eye, Industrial productivity, and Equality and diversity issues in engineering research.

Dr. Dimitris Drikakis is a Professor of Engineering Science, Executive Director of the Strathclyde Space Institute, and Executive Director of Global University Partnerships at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. Prior to his present positions, he was the Executive Dean (Engineering) and Associate Principal at the University of Strathclyde, (till June 2017) and Head of Aerospace Sciences and Professor of Fluid Mechanics & Computational Science at Cranfield University (2003-2015). His expertise is in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluid mechanics (particularly compressible flows), and micro/nanoscale processes at fluid-solid interfaces. He has been active in both fundamental and applied research across a diverse spectrum of aerospace and mechanical engineering applications. His work has directly influenced areas as diverse as improved understanding of complex aerodynamic flows, compressible turbulent mixing in inertial confinement fusion, and novel gas filtration nanotechnologies based on carbon nanotubes. He has received: 1) The William Penney Fellowship Award (twice in 2008 and 2011) by the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE Plc) in recognition of his contributions to compressible fluid dynamics. 2) The Innovator of the Year Award (2014) by the Innovation Institute for a new generation carbon capture technology that uses carbon nanotubes for filtering out carbon dioxide and other gases at low or zero energy cost. 3) The Technical Achievement Award at the International Conference on Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Aerospace and Sciences. To date, he has co-authored two books in the field of computational fluid dynamics and has published about 400 papers/book chapters in the above technical areas.

Dr. Sumsun Naher is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at City University London, London, UK. She graduated with a Ph.D. from Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland where she then took up a Lecturing position in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Her research lies in the area of semi-solid processing, laser processing, simulation and modeling of materials processing technologies, and materials characterization. She has edited five books, co-authored five book chapters, and written more than 100 international journal and conference papers. She received the DCU Invent Commercialization Award, in 2011, for her innovation and commercialization of the laser peening process for the application of a rock drilling hammer. To date, she has supervised to completion of four Ph.D. students and three post-doctoral researchers. Currently, she is leading a research group of four full-time Ph.D. students. She is an active reviewer of many national and international funding bodies including the European Science Foundation and the European Commission and also an external Ph.D. examiner for European and Asian Institutes. Dr.Naher is an organizing committee member of many International Conferences and a Chartered Member of IMechE, UK She was the main participant and management committee member in an EU COST Action Thixosteel project. In 2017, she was the Co-Chair of the 20th International Conference on Materials Forming, Esaform2017.

Semi-solid processing, laser processing, simulation and modeling of materials processing technologies and materials characterization

Fenniri received all his degrees from the University de Strasbourg, France. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute, CA, USA, he moved to Purdue University, IN, the USA, where he initiated his independent academic career, and established the Purdue Laboratory for Chemical Nanotechnology (1999). In 2003, He joined the National Research Council as a founding member of the National Institute for Nanotechnology and as professor of chemistry and biomedical engineering at the University of Alberta (Canada, 2003-2013). Dr. Fenniri is currently a Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Chemistry at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA. Dr. Fenniri’s contributions appeared in over 220 publications, 20 patents, and patent applications, and over 500 contributed national and international conference papers. Dr. Fenniri has also lectured extensively around the globe and has been an invited professor at several institutes and universities.
